Fr. Samuel Giese joined St. Jane de Chantal parish in July 2012 from St. Mary's in Landover Hills, MD where he was pastor for five years. After his 1985 ordination, he served as a parochial vicar at Ascension in Bowie, St. Catherine Laboure in Wheaton, Holy Cross in Garrett Park, and St. Bernadette's in Silver Spring. He also served as a prison chaplain and was deployed to Iraq as a combat area chaplain with the Army National Guard from 2005-2006, and he wrote a series of columns from the war zone for the Catholic Standard. In one he noted, "I know that I am here [in Iraq], because God called a priest to be here."
